An Indian woman living in Australia faced a hefty financial blow after steam from her shower triggered the fire alarm, resulting in a fine of $1,800 (approximately 130,000 rupees).
She shared her story on Instagram, with the video beginning with the caption: “Look who just got fined 130,000 rupees.”
The woman explained, “I was fined $1,800 for triggering the fire alarm.”
She recalled that she had just stepped out of the bathroom when the fire alarm suddenly went off. Unsure of what was happening, she initially thought it was a fire drill.
Shortly after, the building manager entered her apartment. The woman said she initially thought the manager had come to help her evacuate, only to realize later that he was there to address the alarm.
It turned out the manager had noticed she was taking a shower. Although she had only been showering for five minutes, she hadn’t turned on the exhaust fan.
She speculated that the steam generated might have been enough to trigger the alarm.
The incident led her to question the logic behind the installation of the device in the apartment. “Who puts a fire alarm outside the bathroom?” she asked in the video.
As the video went viral, some users questioned the sensitivity and placement of the alarm, while others suggested inspecting the building’s fire alarm system to determine why steam from a brief shower was enough to trigger it. The system needs to be checked to figure out why steam from a short shower was sufficient to cause this malfunction.
